Now that Sage has been back in town for over a week (probably longer, but I'm not so good at math), we here at School Boy Sage took time to talk to Brendan about his move back to Boston, the upcoming Greater Coondawg Open, and his return to the college lifestyle. This interview was pieced together from phone conversations and a face-to-face conversation at Mary Ann's.
SchoolBoy: What's it like being back in Boston?
BrendanSage (BS): Good, man. It's great to be back in town and see all my old friends.
SchoolBoy: I hear you're living with Jake Stahl. What words would you use to describe living with this well documented genius/playboy?
BS: Jake is great, man. Apparently he works hard, but I have yet to see him go to bed before 4 AM. And in the ten plus days I've been back, he's only eaten one meal, mostly consisting of bear meat and lima beans. The kid is a machine.
SchoolBoy: For some reason, that doesn't surprise me. Shifting gears a bit, I know that you're coming off a year of unemp...uh, early retirement. What have you been doing to pass the time during the lull of the summer months?
BS: Well for one thing, I brought my jump soles with me from Chicago, so operation slam dunk is still alive. I haven't made much progress, mostly because I've only worked out with them once, but I really feel optimistic about the progress I will be making over the summer. I've also started working for Intersections at BC, which helps me to pass the time.
SchoolBoy: Actually, I heard about this job of yours. I know it has something to do with retreats, spirituality, etc., which I'm sure is great and all, but are the rumors true that you work with Karl Danso?!
BS: Yeah, man. Karl and I share an office, which is money. He's really quite the physical and intellectual specimen - he types 270 words per minute, speaks seven languages, and works with troubled youths on his days off.
SchoolBoy: I agree, he's at least five times the man that you or I will ever be.
BS: (quizzical stare)
SchoolBoy: Groups for the Greater Coondawg Open were released this week. Any thoughts on your group, and what surprises can I expect next weekend?
BS: There will be plenty of surprises, but what would they be if I told you about them? The only thing you can bank on is that my group will win.
SchoolBoy: Of course you'll win - you cheat - but we look forward to the weekend anyway. Well thanks for taking the time to chat with us, Sage, we look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
BS: Sure thing, pal. Take care.
